I remember one day walking over to the school for a Natty soccer practice and saw a border collie chasing down Jack who was running away from it. Not knowing what was happening there I was nervous about Jack getting attacked. Then saw him rolling around laughing hysterically that this dog just took him down from behind. They played this chase game for a while and it was fun to watch them.
Anytime we see a dog you can be sure that Jack is going to go up and say hi. I am not such a K9 socialite myself. Perhaps it stems from being chased by a dog when I was younger that just freaked me out with strange dogs. If I know the animal I am fine but I tend to stay away from those I don't know. I cannot forget the day on my mission when I was out on exchanges with the AP's and I took by bag out of the car and set it on the sidewalk. We were gathering up additional brochures when a man with a dog came by and the dog veered over to my bag, lifted its leg and proceeded to pee all over it. It was just a little dog. I said "sir, your dog just peed all over my bag". The man didn't even acknowledge my presence. There was another man walking his dog a short distance from behind the other man. His dog was a Great Dane - black as I recall. Anyway, he saw the entire incident and spoke these words of caution; "You may want to move that bag or my dog will do the same thing". He didn't have to tell me twice.
Anyway, Jack is a talented dog whisperer. There was a dog that wandered into our yard this afternoon. I was busy cleaning out the car while the boys were playing. Jack started laughing and said "look behind you". i did and suddenly there was this dog with two different color eyes. So the boys started playing with it and then Natty came home and started playing with it. It really was a nice dog and I think well trained. She would come up and lay on her back for a belly rub. She was great with the kids and they all seemed to be having a good time. So I am carrying on with my cleaning of the car and suddenly the dog is up in the front seat, staring at me, ready to go for a ride. I think she likes the car. I couldn't convince her to get out of the vehicle. Well, this brought even more joy to the kids. Natty managed to persuade her to come out with a handful of goldfish. Oh well. It was fun to hear the kids out playing the dog.
Here is a picture of the animal with a couple of happy boys in the background. Look at the eyes on that thing. Wow, what a freakish animal. Hope she found her way home again. She hung out here for a couple of hours. We had been inside, had dinner and were cleaning up. I went to get something out of the car and low and behold, the dog was there. Anyhow, here is a picture.
There was a dog just like that in New Harmony with two freakish eyes but I thought she died. Maybe this is the ghost of the New Harmony dog... glad the kids had fun with her.
ReplyDeleteAlso thinking that maybe Jack will grow up to be a Vet - he has the talent and the love!
