Branch Down

Last night I mentioned we were getting snow in May.  That snow came heavy and wet.  At roughly 1 AM I was awoken by a loud crack and thunderous sound.  I figured it was lightning and thunder and tried to return to sleep.  I began wondering if lightning struck the tree.  I heard the same sound again and more cracking.  It kept waking me up and I decided to go investigate.

I discovered what was happening.  The Big tree in the backyard was breaking under the weight of the snow.  I found a fallen branch on the cable lines.  We don't have cable tv but do have internet through the cable so I decided I would pull that branch off to keep it from further damaging the line.  I quickly discovered that I was in a danger zone as another large branch cracked and fell.  I pulled off the branch and headed inside and back to bed.

I did my best to sleep but woke up several times during the night to the same cracking noise followed by a thunderous thump as large tree branches crashed to the ground.

This morning I went out to assess the damage.  The tree got hammered.   We lost some very large branches.  It was a serious pruning.  The cable lines were hit by another branch and we're ripped down the side of the house.  We have some repairs to make.

There was a lot of snow sitting on tree branches and I went about trying to clear them so we could avoid more down branches.  That helped along with a break in the storm and a little breeze.

After church we began hauling downed branches out to the road.  Borden Jenkins came over with his chainsaw and cut up the bigger branches.  There was a lot, still is a lot of little stuff.  Quite the storm.

Though we had a bit of destruction I find myself quite grateful for the moisture received.   The land needs it, we need it too.  Grateful.

Lest I forget, Happy Mothers Day!   Much thanks to my incredible mother and all the wonderful mothers out there.  Much thanks to all great women who through their goodness and kind hearts love and serve children.  You are wonderful.
