I think I realized this week why I am so tired during the school year. I don't sleep. A certain 5 year old boy somehow manages to find his way into my bed every night and for some reason he cannot remain still when he sleeps. I am kicked, bumped, bruised, hit, breathed on and whatever else could possibly happen all night long. What sleep I do get is only in short bursts between kicks and hits. It makes for some extremely long and restless nights. So, priority number one at night - somehow get Andy to stay in his own bed all night long. We are working on it. So far it isn't going very well. The whole tired/exhaustion thing was like a crazy revelation, so clear and so very true. We do our best. The funny thing is that I don't wake up when he comes up stairs anymore. I don't wake up until he is sleeping next to me and kicks me or something. So in an attempt to be accurate, I probably get one or two hours of sleep before the beatings begin. Such is the life of a parent though. He is such a wonderful little boy, what am I going to do? I'll lose a little sleep I guess.
John, what about letting him sleep on your floor, but in his own "bed?" I remember as a child, sleeping on my parents floor because I was not allowed to sleep with them. Just beimg close made all the difference for me.
ReplyDeleteHope you get some sleep :)
