Nightly Reading

I am most certain I have previously written about our nightly routine of reading from Bill Bennett's Book of Virtues.  It is a great book that has excellent stories from history, poems and other meaningful literature.  I enjoy reading it to the boys and they enjoy hearing it.  Well, for the most part they enjoy it.  Jack just told me tonight that he doesn't like reading about Greek Mythology.  That's cool, I can respect that.

Recently we have been reading stories about courage.  One of those was of Lou Gehrig.  I found that quite an interesting read as it talked about his last years in baseball and in life as he battled ALS.  He was a tough guy and he played until he couldn't play anymore.  ALS took his life.  In the last two months the world has been in a frenzy over what is called the ALS Ice Bucket challenge.  In the challenge you pour a bucket of ice and water over your head to help raise awareness for ALS.  You then go on to challenge others to do it and you post all of this video on the internet.  I thought it was neat to read about ALS and to get the children  a little more of an education .

Anyhow, all I am trying to say is the Book of Virtues is a good book.  It is filled with wonderful lessons and encouragement.  I highly recommend it.
