Derby Bust

As I put together the derby cars for the boys I tried to follow some of the same methods we used for Jacks car last year.  The car last year was really good and performed well so something must have been good.  We didn't enjoy that same success this year and it was pretty tough on Jack.  Andy did well, just enjoyed himself.  He won one of the races but didn't survive after ending up in the losers bracket.  Jack didn't make it into the bracket.  Somehow he ended up having to fight his was into the bracket and the Mallard Steam Locomotive inspired derby car didn't get it done.  I think that was the most upsetting part of the entire deal for Jack.  He didn't really get to compete in the derby.  He didn't do well with that and had a hard time for the rest of the evening.  When the competition was finally over he had the chance to run his car a few times.  He won a few of those races and so things were better but it was rough for a bit.  Apparently I didn't get the successes of last years car quite right and both Jack and Andy struggled.  I may need to invest a little more time into this car design idea and help teach the boys what to look for in a car design.  Jack wants to continue making a car so I guess we'll be racing in the after events.  Should be a blast.  Love these wonderful kids.
