Letting Go

I don't think it is ever fun to have to release someone from their employment.  It certainly isn't any fun when you are the one being let go but when you have to be the person doing the letting go it isn't the easiest thing to do.  I don't like having to conduct those interviews but alas, it is something that has to be done on occasion.   Today was such an occasion.

We've had this gal working for us for a little while now, she is nice and all but she is just not getting it.  I know, what is there to get about sandwiches?  That is the sad thing.  There was another gal that started the day after she did and she's got it.  She knows exactly what she is doing, she has taken materials home to study and she is a worker.  The gal I had to let go cannot be left unsupervised on the simplest of tasks.  Her sandwich making skills were terrible.  We've hired a few new people lately and after only a few days they have easily surpassed what we can have her do.  It is pretty frustrating.  We realized that she wasn't getting a few things and so we tried to put her in a position she could excel in.  She did okay for one day but the next time she worked it was like we had to completely retrain.  That just becomes too much work for us especially when there are plenty of people out there that just seem to hit the ground running.

So though it isn't a fun thing to do, when you know it has to happen it becomes easier to do.  That is my experience anyway.
