Lost and Found

Jack had his 2nd grade program today.  It was a great little program filled with songs they have been learning all year.  Jack was front and center on this one and I am sure that is because it was as close as they could get him to Mrs. Whetman.  He did a great job. It was fun to watch him as he was very animated during it.  I think there must have been certain gestures used when they were teaching the song because he had all these special things that he did and no one else did.  Things that they were not supposed to do but that they had definitely seen before.  It was funny because there were a few times that he realized he was the only one doing these things and quickly stopped.  Anyhow, he really did a fabulous job as did the rest of the 2nd grade.

After the program Jack came home with me which meant he came and hung out at the LBH with me.  We brought his new train and flight videos and he sat and watched while I worked on scheduling and other things.  Natty and Andy walked up after a while and they hung out for a bit until it was time to go.  Jack wanted to find out what would be faster down the street, the truck of foot.  In other words he wanted to race me home.  I told him no, that we would be going together in the truck.  I finished up a few last things and we went outside.  Jack was nowhere to be found.  He had gone outside a few minutes before and I knew that he had taken off for his little race.

This is one of those moments when you hope that your child is safe and you drive home looking for them, expecting to see them at any moment.  It never happened.  We got home and still no sign of Jack so we went across the street and next door looking for him, hoping he went to one of the two. No.  And so we were on the road headed back to the LBH, we must have just missed him in the store.  We drove slowly and I looked carefully around the street as we mad our way there.  Still no sign of him.  I went through the entire store no sign.  That panic feeling you get to experience as a parent every now and again, yes that one, it was kicking in and the little boy was lost.  Dave was running around the different areas surrounding the shop as was I but no sign of him.  I climbed back in the truck, praying that he was okay and preparing to come every street between the shop and home.  I got a call from Sara who was asking if we had found him.  No.  They were out looking and I told her what he was wearing.  Then Jay spotted him and what was lost was now found.  All was right with the world again with the exception of making sure Jack understood that taking off is not okay.  We discussed it and I found out that he ran over to visit with one of his fellow cub scouts and that is why we couldn't see him anywhere.

He was lost, that is a hard thing.  He was found, that was a great relief.
