Here we are on the road.
Here are the kids and cousins posing for a picture just off the trail of the first hike.
After lunch when we ventured up out of the picnic area and just started climbing around the cliffs and rocks it reminded me of Carson City and going climbing with Lystra Pitts up on Prison Hill around his house. We would go and climb the rock face and then continue running around and exploring some. Those were fun times. Today was very much the same except that I was watching these little kids get excited about the next rock formation or wondering what was around the bend. Certainly there were areas where I was a bit nervous with how close they got to the edge. It was a good time though.
Here's Jack and Andy while out climbing around.
Wouldn't you know it but Jack found a couple sitting up on this big rock that had cliffs on three sides. He just sat down with them and started having a conversation. That is what he does. I love the fact that he has no fear and yet it is something that we have to manage as well. He started scolding a boy and his father later in the day because the boy was climbing up a rock area that was not on the trail. He really let them have it and so we talked about not doing that. He makes me laugh though.
Here is Jack with his new friends.
I was just thinking about the day and how amazing Red Cliffs was on the drive home. I was also looking at the surroundings and could see Kolob Canyon up in the distance and the rest of the mountains surrounding the drive and I thought just how beautiful Southern Utah is. What an amazing place. I think trips to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon and other beautiful sites around the area are definitely in order. What a neat place to live.
So anyways, here are some additional pictures of the day.
These two pics are of Jack and Andy up at the second pool. This was part of our second hike and is as far as we decided to go. There is a rope and some foot holes in the rock that would allow us to go further but I was all ready helping kids up challenging areas before we got to this and, well, it was time to turn around. Liked this hike quite a bit.
Here is Jack at the first waterfall on the 2nd hike. He really liked this little pool and the area.
Ahhh, a family pic up at the top of the trail on the first hike. Fun day.
Pretty Natty up and on the move. There were these little tunnels that would take you right up a cliff. All the kids were loving them. This is Natty on top of a cliff after climbing through one of the tunnels. Very cool.
Here are the kids and cousins once again during our post lunch explorations. Andy decided he was not going to be in this picture. Poor guy has no idea that he is. I thought this was a fun picture anyway.
Really grateful for a day filled with fun and family. Thanks for the invite Sara.
