A couple days ago I received a message from my old friend Nick Johnson. He was going to be passing through Cedar with his family and wanted to know if I was going to be at the Brick House serving sandwiches. I told him I would and that I would love to see him. I was helping some customers at the counter today and looked up when I heard the door open and there was this guy with his family that I instantly recognized. It was great to have him come in and to be able to catch up a bit. The last time I saw Nick was back in 2004 in Carson City. He was visiting he parents and had his wife, who was his fiance at the time, with him. I didn't really get to meet her or spend much time with them. Anyhow it was nice to visit with them today. They have 4 beautiful children and I had a good time talking with them, making funny faces and laughing. They are on their way to St. George for a quick little weekend get away. Wendy is Nicks wife and she was really nice. It is a neat thing to see an old friend and to learn of his family and see that they are well. I am grateful for that and am happy for Nick. He is a good man and has always been a good friend.
I did have to laugh a little because the pictures of our sandwiches that I post on Facebook caught his eye and he decided that he had to have one. So great. He had the Ruby. It is really a good sandwich. His wife had the Thunderbird which is also a good sandwich. Truthfully, I don't think there is a sandwich on the menu that isn't good. I have my faves and that does not include the veggie but there are people that absolutely love that one.
On the subject of old friends and delicious sandwiches - I have said before that I get to meet a lot of wonderful people. It really is a lot of fun to serve them and to try and create an experience that is meaningful for them. That may sound weird but it is the basic concept that we set out to accomplish. Provide great food, great service and an amazing experience so that when people leave they leave amazed and want to come back. It's kind of like treating everyone like we are old friends getting reacquainted. I really like that and I think our customers like it too.
Anyhow, great to see Nick and his family today. Thanks much for stopping by.
