6th Grade Band

This morning I received an email from Natalie's band teacher.  It wasn't a personal email but it did have a great announcement regarding the band and their concert or competition yesterday.  Here it is:

The Advanced 6th Grade Band represented our school and the band program very well yesterday at the festival. I was so proud of them. I woke up around 3:00 this morning and started thinking about them and could not go back to sleep.

The behaved very well, the were very prepared, and they performed at a high level that was not expected of a beginning band. The judges were very impressed with the quality of sound and ability. Hooray!

They awarded the band with a "Superior" rating which is the highest rating that they could give. Please tell them congratulations. They have worked hard this year and the adjudicators were thrilled with their performance.

Congratulations Natalie and the rest of the Cedar Middle School Advanced 6th Grade Band!

I think it is wonderful that Natty is in the band and that she loves music.  She is really doing well with her flute and I hope she sticks with it.  I think back on my childhood and that is one thing I wish I would have done - stuck with music.

I had a year of piano and walked away from it.  I don't know that I was ever that good but how I wished I would have stayed with it when I entered the mission field.  I especially wished I would have stuck with it when I served in King Williams Town and Queenstown.  I did begin working on trying to learn how to play when I was in King Williams town and that desire grew and grew.  When I got home the folks got me some of the simplified hymn books.  I started to practice with that and some other simple things songs.  Eventually using both hands just clicked and I started to work on it more and more.  It was wonderful.  I do quite enjoy sitting down at the piano today and playing some of my favorite hymns.  I am not very good and struggle with the timing but I am so grateful for that piano and the joy it brings into our lives.

Well Natty, congratulations once again.  Sure do love you.
