The time we spent in our younger days
Was all in fun, Oh the good times that we had.
We were young and it was fine
To feel your spirit as it climbed
There are no regrets, only good times
We were friends in younger days
All though we went our seperate ways
You were my friend, you never turned away
Who can say what life will do
Life is kind to just a few
There are no regrets, Only good times
Ooh, ooh in time we will grow, we will change
As free as the wind and the waves
Live your life the way you choose
Find the ones who laugh with you
Like the sea, will find it's way to the shore.
As the sun sinks from the sky
Live your life and you will find
There are no regrets, only good times
Only good times.
Much thanks to Keola and Kapono Beamer for a fantastic song, Only Good Times. One of my all time favorites. And I am very much loving the duds the brothers Beamer are wearing in this pic:

Not sure what kind of Hawaiian music is popular today but whatever that lame song was that Amy was playing for me last week has nothing on Keola and Kapono Beamer. I use to go out and work in the yard on Saturdays and turn on my Hawaiian music on the IPod. I could listen to that stuff week in and week out and just feel good. That was my time to relax and do something that I loved. Now, I have been known to get a little dance in my step when I am doing yard work. I use to make people laugh as I would groove to music only I could here whilst trimming and edging, pulling weeds or whatever. I didn't do too much dancing on the riding mower but I would sing a long occassionally. I have to laugh at myself today because there is a sister in the ward that lives across the street. I am bad with names and only know that she is the Young Womens President. Anyhow, she does a lot of yard work and I have caught her singing a few times. One of my favorites was the day she was rocking out to Bon Jovi Livin on a Prayer. She was in her groove. Hey, only good times.
Life is too short to dwell on all the hardships we encounter. But why is it so easy to focus on them? I don't want to. There were two talks in recent years that I think about relative to seeking joy or focussing on the blessings that come constantly in our lives. Elder Wirthlins talk, "Come What May and Love it!" Also love President Monson's instruction "Find Joy in the Journey...Now!" I am learning that there are always going to be hardships in our lives and if we let them, they will consume us. They can skew our vision to where we fail to see the blessings we receive from the Lord each day. I need to remember that I sometimes experience bitter so that I can taste the sweet.
I tasted sweet today. We were invited to dinner with Heidi and her family. I ran and got the kids after work from Sara's and we headed over. It was a fun night. Heidi made spaghetti and it was great. The kids played for a bit, Heidi and I did a little dinner clean up and then we had a little Family Home Evening. We enjoyed a rather stirring rendition of Jingle Bells where I heard things about Batman and Robin that I never heard before. It was lovely. I gave a quick lesson about service using Mosiah 2:17 and then read the infamous Christmas Mystery story from the Fontano Family Christmas Stories book from 1991. This is the Story about Marty and the electric fence. I managed to make it through without crying though Natty was probably hoping to see that happen. She claimed my eyes were red at the end. Don't think so. Anyhow, we played Apples to Apples Family after that and it was a lot of fun. We all had a good laugh when Ethan read the description of Snot. It is one that I am almost certain dad has used.
You're dancing with your honey
and her nose is kind of runny
you think it's kind of funny
but it's snot.
There certainly was joy to be had today. Very grateful to Heidi for a wonderful evening. Only Good Times!
