Family Home Evening Adventures

For Family Home Evening we were actually out and about.  We took Jack's plane up to the middle school and did our best to fly that thing.  It started off fairly well and then that ended pretty quickly.  Jack stuck the plane in a tree.  I was recording the entire flight though I only caught the take off, forgot I was recording, shot the parking lot and then remembered and pulled up the camera when he was in the tree.  That is some high quality camera work right there.  Anyway, we were able to pull it out of the tree, it had minimal damage and then Jack was off again.  The second run ended pretty quickly as well with a crash the hurt the nose a bit.  Once again the prop was spared and we made yet another flight.  I didn't think we were going to be able to because the motor mount got bent and I thought I heard it break when Jack was bending it back.  Anyhow, I flew it once and it did pretty well but had a bit of a nose dive on a quick landing.  Still alive however, Jack took it for another flight, did well, landed well and tore the motor off the nose.  I think it was actually broken for the last two flights but was hanging on via some tape and probably a very slight connection in the metal.  Four short flights, four rough landings, one broken motor mount but a prop that is still in tact.  Not too shabby.  We'll get to fine tune this bird yet again and build a new motor mount.  Jack is getting better and I hope we can get him flying that thing for more then a few seconds before an abrupt and rough landing.  Getting on the throttle myself it is pretty exciting and fast especially with the lack of experience.  Perhaps a little panic sets in and it is hard to get the controls right in your head.  A little more time and hopefully very few new props and Jack will be dialed in.  Good times at the park with the plane.
