Is there anything greater than a good game of hide and seek? I don't know, perhaps a quality game of kick the can or capture the flag competes rather well. Hide and seek however is one of those fun ones that is an all time favorite. I remember playing with Natty and Jack when we lived on Pebble Beach Dr. and having my spot. They simply could not find me. It was really simple too. The guest bedroom walk in closet with the door open. I would simply stand behind the door. I would come out eventually because I couldn't stand there forever and I could tell they were getting tired of looking.
For FHE tonight we went to Park Discovery to play. We did some swinging - that was a good time. I don't swing often but we were the only ones at the park so I decided to go for it. That way if the swing broke under my weight I would avoid the embarrassment of any onlookers. I say that and then recall who my son is and realize that it would probably be broadcast over the pulpit next fast Sunday. After giving the kids a spin on the tire swing we decided to play a Natty inspired FHE game called "Find the Light". That was our spiritual version of Hide and Seek. This was slightly different then traditional hide and seek as there were three seekers and one light or hider. We managed to get three rounds in where each of us had a chance to hide. The kids all did really well. Some hiding places were a little simpler than others but each of them had some good spots. That pattern applied to me as well. My first hiding place was terrible, my second was actually quite good and then I pulled out all the stops on my third. So good that I will not reveal the location to the kids. They were quite close on multiple occasions but never managed to find me. I was chewing sunflower seeds and was trying to leave hints with empty shells spit in a location that would lead them to me but they failed to notice the shells. I decided to abandon my post and move to a more visible and obvious location. Even at that it took them a while to find me. We all had a good laugh at that and ventured home.
I liked Natty's creativity with the game. She did a great job coming up with it and the fact that she tied it in to a gospel theme made me happy. As we contemplate the title of her game - Find the Light - I think it is interesting that the light is available and just waiting for people to find it. Sometimes people can be right there and miss it. Perhaps it is a little different though. Could it be that we are to share the light and it is us that fail to let it shine when there are those that are seeking for it in our midst? I don't know. I think that I do not always do the best with my personal missionary efforts. "There are many yet on the earth among all sects parties and denominations who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it". I suppose I should not be as stealthy in my sharing of the gospel as I was in my most excellent hiding place and I need to move out in the open and make it easy to find.
Outside of all this light finding and sharing I did shed a little light on water slides this evening. I told the kids about Wet N' Wild in Vegas. They loved my description of the various slides like the Royal Flush and Bombay. It certainly livened up the room before we started scripture reading. All three were rather excited and begging for more. Fun stuff.
