SUU Athletic Supporters

Wednesday, September 07, 2011
We, meaning The Little Brick House, are official supporters of SUU Athletics.  Look I am a guy so when I use the term Athletic Supporter I automatically think of Jock Straps.  It just happens.  My apologies if I have now offended you with my honesty.  There was a time several years ago, we are talking just off the mission, well a year off the mission anyway, so 96ish.  The Oakland Athletics were looking at possible relocation of the team and Las Vegas happened to be one of a few potential locations.  I had a grand idea that never materialized.  I, along with a few others, would begin a movement known as the Las Vegas Athletic Supporters and we would attend all Las Vegas games with Jock Straps on our heads.  When you are 22 years old that kind of stuff seems pretty cool.  Not so much anymore.
So anyways we are officially supporting athletics at SUU.  Pretty cool.  We will actually get in game promotions for every other game this year.  We are alternating with another business which makes it more affordable for us.  Actually we pulled off an order today for 325 sandwiches with drinks, cookies, and chips for each of the 325 Student Athletes at SUU.  It was a lot of work.  We also managed to pull it off in the middle of our Wednesday $5 special.  We started before we opened and got probably half done or so and then worked on it throughout the remainder of the day.  It was pretty cool.  The nice thing is that it went as trade for the marketing for the year at our full retail value.
We obviously had an expense with the meal.  There was some concern with it but we felt good about the opportunity and we went for it.  Our Rep from SUU is Suzie Rowley.  She popped in yesterday to introduce us to a lady name Marty that was over the event tonight and may be the president of the Student Athletes Association or something.  I am not completely up to snuff on the ins and outs of the operation there.  Well it turns out that this gal Marty loved the store and actually came back in after our visit and purchased the Brianhead Piano that I mentioned in a previous post – possibly entitled That Was Heavy.  She picked up a couple other things as well and the income from her purchases yesterday will cover the costs we encountered to put on the meal.  That is a pretty neat thing in my opinion.  Pretty dang amazing.
When you work hard to make something happen it is quite gratifying when it begins to take some traction.  Now look, we are not there yet and have a long way to go to get to where we need to be.  I think we realize that.  We are only just now two months along and seeing that traction begin to take place provides a certain amount of hope.  As I said we are not where we need to be but we are moving in the right direction.
Speaking of the right direction I attended an IEP for Jack today.  I am so glad for Jack that we are at South Elementary.  I love the staff there especially his teaches and the special needs teachers.  They are some amazing people and they love Jack.   The meeting went well.  There are some challenges that will continue to be worked on but he is doing very well in most things.
I am grateful for my little family and for the hand of the Lord in my life.
