Tonight the old man, Dave and myself moved some stuff out of the basement of the new LBH building and into the parking lot. There are some local metal scrappers that are coming to haul away a bunch of old equipment and said they would take an old freezer and old cast iron water heater from the basement as well. We just had to get it up top for them. Nothing we can't handle.
I think Dave and I were a bit nervous when we grabbed on to the water heater. Padre was talking about how this scrapping guy came down and tilted the thing like it was nothing. He must eat small animals for breakfast or have a third testicle because that thing was not moving. I could barely tilt it putting all my weight into it. Turns out it was full of water so we opened the valve and let it drain. It drained for what seemed a lifetime.
During the period of drainage we moved quite a few old racks and other miscellaneous items up stairs. Then it was time for the chest freezer. I am so glad that they make things much lighter today then they did in the past. This thing had to weigh a solid 400 pounds. We thought we would try and slide it up the greasy stairs. Not happening. So genius, that would be me, decides we are going to basically roll it up the stairs. Well, it worked. Dave will never have children but we got that thing up there. What a beast.
The water heater was still draining. I grabbed my pipe wrench and pulled off another plug. That sped things up and all too quickly it was time to move that tank. I don't think it was quite as heavy as the freezer but it was right up there with it. Glad to have it done and wish the three testicled small animal eating man all the best with these items tomorrow.
I figure that both of these were left down in the basement for a reason. They probably quit working 20 years ago but moving them was not worth the trouble so they just left them down stairs. I really cant say that I blame them. It was certainly one of those moments when you look back and think that there was probably a much better way to do that job, well, a much safer way anyway. We did discover a big wheeled dolly that worked like a dream.
Well, what are some things hanging out and weighing me down? What do I have sitting in my own basement knowing that I should get rid of it yet am content to let it take up space? That burden is heavy and getting rid of it may seem like it is too much to handle yet we have a savior that will make the burden light. No need to carry around the extra weight. The physical demands of the loads lifted this evening help me appreciate even more the willingness of the Savior to take upon him my sins and to take upon him my burdens that they may be light.
