A Little Hoopla

I took the kids out to the SUU Mens Basketball game tonight.  We had some tickets with our support of SUU athletics and then some from the Chamber of Commerce so I decided it would be a fun venture for the kids.  Natty and I went to one last season and she had a good time. The boys, well, this was their first and they were excited to go.

We got in the arena, got in our seats and everything was going well.  After a few fouls were called we had a couple of fans a few rows behind us just mad as hell and yelling at the ref.  Unexpectedly Jack turned around and started yelling at them.  He thought he was hilarious and had a big smile on his face.  I suggested we not start yelling at the people behind us and he discontinued yelling but still had a big smile on his face.  You could see the wheels were turnin.  He managed to relax about that.

Andy was all over the place, well all over three seats one of which had me in it.  He did pretty well but somehow kept getting very thirsty towards the end of the game.

All was again going well right up until the cheerleaders started throwing things into the crowd.  There were frisbee's and then hand delivered cans of coke products.  They also had McFlurry cups from McDonald's.  I kept waiting for the Brick House Fudge.  It was supposed to get thrown into the crowd.  Now we did get there a couple minutes after the tip so perhaps it was shared during those few minutes.  Crazy,  We will see.

Part of sponsoring means that you may be able to throw things to the crowd.  so the cheerleaders begin throwing these goods to the fans and there is a lot of excitement.  Jack got up and participated every time in hopes of getting the item and every time he was not seen.  He started to get angrier and angrier.  I tried to talk him down but wasn't having much luck and then he decided he needed to have food.  A friend suggested that would be a good thing to distract him from the cheerleaders.  I went with it instead of being so cheap and what do you know, it worked.

We are not the worlds biggest basketball fans but we all seemed to enjoy ourselves.  It was a good first game for the boys as it was a nail biter at the end.  Lots of great cheering.  Nothing quite like a little hoopla.
