I was surprised yesterday when Dave told me that The Little Brick House was recognized as one of the top new businesses of the year in Cedar City. I really had no idea we were even being looked at for that. Turns out that we came in second place. Quite frankly I was pleasantly surprised. We don't have prime real estate, we have had somewhat of a quiet start with more of a grass roots marketing plan. The company in front of us is a good company, they are doing a good job and I commend them for that. They do have prime real estate in down town Cedar. There is a huge push in Cedar to live it up down town. There really is no push to live it up on 400 South a block off main street. To be the number two with the stark differences in locations and other things really makes me smile. I am quite happy about it.
It is an interesting thing to start a company and really have no idea how it will be accepted. We went into it determined to have a great product, great atmosphere and great service. I believe that our dedication to those things have helped us to be successful. We still have a long way to go. We are just in our infancy. We certainly make mistakes and we have some people that don't necessarily like our food but that seems to be very few and far between. For the most part our customers love our sandwiches. Our repeat business is up there. We see people multiple times a week. That is exciting. We are also seeing new people all the time as well and that is also exciting. We are working hard to build momentum and keep things going well. The next step will be to duplicate and see if we can progress towards multiple locations. Wow, multiple locations - that's another number 2. If we can successfully do that we can progress to the next phase.
We had a great little catering job today for South Elementary. It was a good job for us. I enjoyed it anyway. I know a few of the teachers there and sure do love them. They were excited to see us and to have our food. Nice to have a school full of fans. We learned some things and that is good. We will make some adjustments. I sold them on the idea of cookie salad as a side - it was a major hit. That was great. It made for a good day as we enjoyed our best ever, beating out the previous mark by $20 or so.
