A Night on the Slopes
Over the last couple of years as winter time kicks in and the snow falls on the grounds here in Cedar City I manage to post a blog about our adventures night sledding. I don't know how many of those posts have the title Night Sledding. Tonight I could have used that same title, instead I have come up with another one. It sounds pretty glamorous, like were at some swanky resort decked out with lights for spending an evening on the slopes. The reality of the situation is that we went to the same little hill we always got to just across the street at the High School and off the parking lot at Cal-Ranch. It is a fun little hill and at 9:30 at night we find that we have the entire hill to ourselves for the most part. It was a great time. The kids were jump masters. Andy as flying off the jump frontwards, backwards, on the side. He was quite amazing. Jack captained his favorite Black Magic plastic toboggan typed sled that he got from his Uncle Bubba. It is his sled of choice and he rides it proudly and well. Natty held her own with distance and jumping. She also managed to do her fair share of community organizing convincing the boys to ride down together or to form a chain, to go off the jump or to stick to the ground. The girl has skills and just really likes to be in charge. After sledding for just under an hour we made our way back to the truck. Andy was riding on his sled while I pulled him back. I decided to be a sled dog and took him for a wild ride. He loved it and eventually fell off when I was whipping him around a turn. While getting back on Jack had run over with his black magic sled and I had to pull him around. I am not a machine here people. I was wiped out and then Natty was organizing her turn. I slowly walked the boys to the car so I could catch my breath. I then went back to pull Natty. It was not a simple task. I pulled with everything I had and got her going. I fished tailed her around a corner and was fixin to get her on another strong turn when Jack tackled her off and put me in a state where I could breathe again. It was a great evening on the slopes. I highly recommend it.
