Simply having a wonderful Christmas day! Is that the right lyric or is it 'we are having...'? Unlike the great Uncle Buck I don't know my music. Well, suffice to say it was a wonderful Christmas day. A little sleeping in this morning though that didn't account for much as I didn't get to bed until half passed 3 anyway. Still nice not to be up first thing though as soon as mom started doing stuff in the kitchen I couldn't sleep. The noise just went right into the room I am staying in. That's okay, I got a little nap time in later in the evening. Apparently I was so out during the nap that I was decorated and had a number of things thrown at me. What can I say - when I am tired, I'm tired and I'm going to sleep... somewhere.
Anyhow, as per the last two years the kiddos spent the morning with their mom. I was out at the folks with the folks, Mike, Liana, Amy and Dan. We had a fine morning distributing gifts and then doing our usual gift opening rotation. We had a fine morning and enjoyed some laughs. We followed it up with a great Christmas breakfast that included Grandma Vi's breakfast casserole, cinnamon rolls and bacon. Pretty dang tasty. I had a nice shower and then was off to pick up the kids. They came down with me and we did presents for them. They seemed to enjoy everything.
A short time later Laura, Nigel and fam showed up then a bit after that Jay, Sara and fam arrived. Dave and Dani came in after we had eaten dinner and were just in time for the white elephant exchange. I ended up with a small statue of an African American Santa Clause. It now needs to be on display for the next year at the house. It should create a few laughs. There were some pretty funny gifts in the exchange. A small replica of the statue of David being one. Who finds that? Well, apparently Dave and Dani. Anyhow lots of fun. I brought a sweet little pig sitting on a wagon. Sara ended up with it. Other things: A portrait of Mom when she was younger, a cat head sculpture that hangs on the wall, 3 very lovely reindeer, an urn that was apparently filled with Mike's hair and hair from his dogs Karcher and Hardy. There were a number of others that should make for some excellent display material for the next year. Well played family, well played.
I tried to do something meaningful this year that would remind us of the savior. I had these pictures that I got at the singles conference back in February. 8 pictures of the Savior. There were 4 of just the Savior and then 4 of the Savior with a little girl. I gave Natty the Savior and the girl picture and then the boys both got the up close Savior shot. I also gave more copies to each of the siblings here in town. I think they were well received. I hope that they brought our minds to the Savior on this day and continue to do so everyday.
On the drive back up to Cedar we talked about the pictures a bit. We discussed other gifts that were received today and that after those gifts are long gone the gift of the Savior is still there and will always be there. I don't really know how much they gathered from that part of our conversation but I hope something stuck.
Sure do love my kids and am grateful for the time spent with them today. It was an enjoyable Christmas to be sure. I love my wonderful family.
