The boys and I went out on a little adventure tonight to find a Christmas book for them. I knew what I wanted to get and thought it would be a great story especially with Jack's interest in all things train. President Monson released a book that is the true story of a childhood experience he had involving a Christmas Train.
We made out way over to Deseret Book where we delivered a slice of The Little Brick House Key Lime pie to my good friend Ben Fawson. He has been working an insane number of hours this week as he has to cover for one of his main people who is out because of her dying father. I knew his hours were long yesterday and today so I decided we would take him a little something. We delivered said pie and we found our book. Ben also hooked us up with a CD of President Monson reading the story and then a few videos to check out from the store library. Jack was all about a documentary on the Lusitania and couldn't stop talking about it and the Titanic. We have two documentaries to watch now. These are just the type of things Jack loves to watch and learn about.
Anyhow, we got home with our new book and sat on the couch. Jack read the story to the rest of us and did a great job. He also got a lot out of the story. This is a great victory for Jack. A story about trains, a lesson taught about fixing a wrong and truly giving from your heart, great artwork and the story wasn't so long that he quit reading before he started. Glad we went and picked it up.
We are also on the look out for a Christmas Train of our own. The Wally Mart has one that looks okay but I would like to shop it a bit and see if we can't find something he'll really be excited about. Keeping a Christmas Train as only a Christmas Train is going to be the biggest challenge.
