Attempting Audio

A couple weeks ago during a conversation with my sister in law I decided it would be a good idea to have Jack listen to Harry Potter on disc.  It was after his SEP (student education plan or something) and reports that his reading level is low.   I am certain an audio book is not the best was to help him read.  Actually, he reads well he just doesn't interpret characters feelings very well.  It is one of those things he doesn't connect with and so when he is tested on that side of things he doesn't do well.  If the testing were all about reading a book about tractors and explaining how it all functions he will do exceptional.  That isn't how it works though.  Anyway, last night it occurred to me that I needed to get it started and so we did.  We didn't get very far with bed time but he was excited about it and wanted to keep listening.  The book was set up in a CD player and when he got home he began listening again.  By the time I got home he had covered some ground.  Natty said she would pause the story and ask him what was happening.  He could tell her all kinds of details about what was happening.  I don't know that he can interpret characters feelings but we are trying and hoping that he will gain a greater love for books and have a desire to read them.  My goal is to get him to read along with the audio and then to progress from there.
