On the way to school this morning Andy stopped at the bike rack and did not put his scooter in the open slot on the rack. I asked if he would like me to park it there for him. No. It wasn't next to Jack's. there was not an open slot next to Jack's. Andy then instructed me to park it outside of a slot and right next to Jack's. He then told me something like "We stick together. We're brothers". It struck me as funny as I had just written about the boys being at each others throats. It also came as a faith builder and reassurance that these boys are brothers and that they do love each other. Love that.
I got up this morning and decided to listen to conference while I ran on the elliptical. I usually watch a movie but decided to change that up. I pulled up the April 2012 conference and started with a by Cheryl A. Esplin titled Teaching Our Children to Understand. I don't believe this decision was by chance or that choosing this talk was either. It was exactly what I needed to hear as a parent. There was an experience shared of a little girl who was frustrated with her little brother who apparently wasn't the best at sharing. The result was fighting. Her mother taught her the importance of getting a long and then taught her about prayer during one of their fights. The girl was upset, prayed for her brother to be a better sharer and then prayed that she could do better as well. She felt the spirit and her mother taught her what it was and what it meant. It helped me to understand how I can better help the boys to overcome their fighting and gain a greater understanding of prayer. I had little one on one conversations with each of them this morning and we discussed how prayer can help us when we are experiencing challenges. The next step will be to pray with them when they are having a challenge. The Lord will bless them as they do so and their brotherly bond will be increased and they will have a greater love for each other.
