Sometimes you do things and just scratch your head wondering what the heck you were thinking. Well, sometimes I do things... I do not mean to speak for everyone. So yes, I do things and wonder what the heck I was thinking a little later. Today this has to do with a certain wild animal that is now swimming in our bathtub downstairs.
When I pulled into work today I parked across the street and noticed this beautiful little duck sitting on the sidewalk of the original Little Brick House. Before I walked over to the LBH I went and checked it out. It was just a little fella sitting there on the sidewalk. He was scared. He walked oddly and tried to fly away from me. He ended up run/flying out into the street and then settled under a car that was parked behind me. There it remained all day.
I felt a need to get the bird somewhere warm so Dave came over and helped me get it out from under the car and into a box. The kids walked over to the LBH and so I showed it to them. It wasn't long before they settled on a name and were determined that the bird needed to come to our house. So, Billy the Loon is now happily swimming around our bathtub.
It is small and it's wingspan isn't so great. It appears that it may have sustained some sort of an injury to one of its wings. It sure was happy to get into the bath. With the water running it swam over to the water filling the tub and dived under the water and swam through that area a few times. It dove under the water and swam quite a bit. It is a pretty cool bird.
Natty was on the phone with her mom and Rachel told her it sounded like a loon. I did some research tonight and sure enough it looks to be a common loon. I was hoping to find something simple I could feed it. Well, it eats fish. We did get it to eat tomatoes but I don't know that tomatoes will last. I am going to try and run by to pick up some feeder fish in the morning. We shall see.
