Little Reader

When I dropped Andy off this morning Mrs. Jansen came and talked to me about him.  She does this often.  Anyhow, this morning she told me that Andy is ready to begin reading.  She gave me a booklet she put together with beginner books from the 70's.  She has been teaching a while.  Anyhow, she likes these books better then those of today.  She discussed how effective these were and why.  I told her we would take a look at it.  Mrs. Jansen told me how well he is doing with his site words and that he is one of very few in the class that is ready to go.  She then told me how good of a dad I am and the great job I am doing.  That type of compliment is very nice to receive as I don't see myself doing a very good job.  I do see the areas in which I struggle and fall short.  Perhaps I put a little too much pressure on myself to the point that I focus on my short comings and fail to see the good things we are doing.  So anyway, the compliment was nice to hear.  A little confidence booster is always welcome.

Upon arriving home tonight  I made mac and cheese for dinner.  I thought some of you might appreciate that update.  The boys loved it.  Funny enough, Natty had Ramen Noodles.  Go figure.  I forgot that Natalie is against all forms of Mac and Cheese.  And that is the update on yesterdays post.

The kids all wanted to head to the pool and I assured them that we would but Andy needed to practice his reading first.  We opened up the book from Mrs. Jansen.  I did have to coach Andy a little and then he started reading pretty well.  I was right there with him and we worked on sounding out words.  He really is a smart little fella.  So smart in fact that I can't get away with calling him a pretty fart smellar.  Nope, not having any of that.

Well my Little Reader is doing a great job and I am very excited about his progress. We still have a long way to go but we are having fun getting there.
