Mac and Cheese

This morning I was making the boys breakfast when I had a memory of something I did as a 13 year old boy with my brother Pete.  The boys both requested Ramen Noodles for breakfast - I find that a bit disgusting but oh well.  It is what they both wanted, I made it happen.

In any case, as I made these noodles and was serving them up I thought about making lunch with Pete when we lived on Mokuhano St. in Hawaii Kai.  We would excitedly cook up some Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.  We had our own way of making it that really wasn't all that different from the instructions.  It was however extremely delicious and quite simple.  The secret - extra milk and butter.  I know, pretty intense.  It just created a creamier version of the dish that was excellent. I remember teaming up and cooking on a regular basis.  Mac and Cheese was a favorite for sure.

I had my two little boys both wanting Ramen Noodles this morning - thrilled to get their bowls and eat away.  I thought about brothers and those experiences with Pete and the Mac and Cheese and was grateful for this moment.   It is fun to see those brotherly bonds form.

It is now Tuesday morning and I had a couple additional thoughts on mac and cheese as well as Ramen Noodles.  I was going to share one of these last night but was asleep at the wheel so I checked out.  In any case, some have already read this post and will miss out on these fine additions.  So sorry.

Mac and Cheese - I still add a little extra milk and a little extra butter.  That is the way I serve it up to the kids.  I can't help it, it's better that way.  Though I think Pete still prefers the Kraft I am more of a homemade mac and cheese fan.  The only problem with making that is the kids prefer the Kraft and there I am with a ton of mac and cheese that only I will eat.  Is that really a bad thing though?

Now that you are thinking of eating something let me throw this out there and save you from your cravings.  The boys rejected the grilled cheese sandwiches I made them for dinner and wanted Ramen Noodles.  Andy tackled his with no problem, Jack wasn't feeling all that well but insisted on having some.  I should have known better then to serve them up.  They really wanted to go to the pool and we were getting ready when Jack complained again about not feeling well so I called off the pool.  We gathered in the living room for our Family Home Evening lesson presented by Natalie on The Good Samaritan - rather timely topic for what happened next.  I had just turned the time over to her when Ramen Noodles and Jack parted ways.  It was not pretty.  I figured the brotherly bond formed over Ramen Noodles would be dead.  Once you puke something up do you really have a desire to eat it again?  I don't.  I also figured Andy being so close to that action would lose appetite for it in the future.  I don't know.  I do know that this morning when I asked Jack what he wanted for breakfast - Ramen Noodles.  Perhaps that bond lives on.

My final note - this was the second time I had to clean up Ramen Noodle puke.  The first time was 12 years ago when Rachel was pregnant with Natalie.  She managed to get into the bathroom but that was about it - Ramen Noodles everywhere.  Do you ever get used to cleaning up puke?  I don't.  I also don't eat Ramen Noodles.  I think that settles it then - Mac and Cheese for dinner tonight! Anybody hungry?
